: "..."

What a tragedy.

Was told that someone will be going overseas to further her studies. Had an idea of the wheres and whats concerned.

Was told to call her to wish her luck.

Knew that she will not contact me, rather she would contact someone else in the family.

Had nothing to say to her. Aside from "Best of Luck".

On the phone, that is. The mood just isn't there.

Was about to call her when I realised I don't even have her number. Was later told that she changed it.

So I keyed in the number and pressed the 'send' button.

She had my number. Was kind of surprised. Then again there's nothing surprising since I had updated her when I got a new number.

Thus began the most insincere conversation I have ever had with any relative.

Actually, 'emotionless' is a much better description.

Tried starting a conversation to inquire about her studies and realised that I had known too much beforehand to be sincere about starting one. She didn't sound interested in having a conversation.

She asked if the 'someone else in the family' was in. Was about to reply that he will call her when he comes home but realised it is extremely inappropriate. Stumbled to find an alternative phrasing.

All in less than two minutes.

Guess a relationship between cousins can be as good as lost, just by being out of touch for a long period of time. Especially when both parties are experiencing changes in mentality and maturity during this 'long period of time'.

Not that I am mature, or anywhere near maturity.

Best of luck.
